Facing

Each combatant faces half of the hex it is occupying, (the direction where his body is toward) making three sides of the hex his front. The two opposing sides (on his left and right) represent a combatantโ€™s flank. And the last remaining side of the hex (his back) is the combatant's rear.

A character on the ground (or picking up a dropped weapon) has no โ€˜frontโ€™ but is considered to have โ€˜rearโ€™ in all six directions.

Facing determines which combatants can be attacked. Only combatants in front of a unit can be attacked. Attacking a target from rear gives +1 advantage to attack rolls. A unit whose front is occupied on all three sides is considered surrounded.
